How To Get There

Anstruther is the largest of the east neuk towns and is very easy to get to on the coastal road. When you get there, from whatever direction, you will encounter the one and only roundabout.Head downhill from this roundabout to the harbour area. There is ample parking here but it is ticketed in the summer months.Follow car park signs for exact dates and charges. The White,or West Pier,is simply the one that has the white lighthouse on it.

White Pier from Golf Course

In the picture above you can see the white lighthouse. The red banner that you can make out is tied to the railing where you would fish in the summer. It's not the most productive summer mark with the occassional small cod, flounder and coley. In the winter though it's a very different story. From this railing and the marks in the next picture, you can easily see cod into the teens, and bags also into the teens.

Winter Marks

In this picture I've highlighted the top winter marks on this pier.As you walk up the pier, the wall to your right is about 3 feet high.About 100 yards up,the pier takes a gentle left bend where the wall starts to increase in height. From this point to where there is another bend in the pier and a set of stone steps, you can fish at any point. The ground here is sand with a few low rock reefs. The cod come right up onto this sand in the winter and makes it a very good mark to fish. To get everything just perfect, you need a highish spring tide, with a good south easterly swell.Catch it perfectly and you'll fill a boat. This pier is fully lit also, and because of the walls between you and the sea,it is safe for night fishing and for younger anglers.

The areas between the stone step corner, and the rail at the end of the pier is pretty heavy going and doesn't really fish that well.
